Check (Requirement)

If you have completed or are in your final semester of a relevant Bachelor’s degree programme you are eligible to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in European Environmental Economics and Policy (M3EP).

Admission requirements

If you have completed or are in your final semester of a relevant Bachelor’s degree programme you are eligible to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in European Environmental Economics and Policy (M3EP).

Joint admission requirements and procedures are established and implemented by the five partner institutions involved in the delivery of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s European Environmental Economics and Policy (M3EP)*.

*in compliance with the Danish Ministerial Order on International Education Activities of Universities (No 247 of 13 March 2015).

Bachelor’s degree that automatically fulfils the academic requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Economics, Economics, Environmental and Food Economics, Natural Resources with specialization in Environmental Economics, Political Science, and in Social Science from the University of Copenhagen.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science or in Economics from the University of Heidelberg.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy (Scienze e politiche ambientali), Economics and Management (Economia e management) or International Politics, Law and Economics (IPLE) from the University of Milan.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Policy (Politologie a verejna politika), Political Science and International Relations (Politologie a mezinarodni vztahy), or in Sociology and Social Policy (Sociologie a socialni politika) from Charles University.

  • First cycle degree in Ekonomia (Economics), Informatyka i ekonometria (Computer Science and Econometrics), Finanse i Rachunkowość (Finance and Accounting), and Finance, International Investment and Accounting from the University of Warsaw.

Other Bachelor’s degrees

If you have a Bachelor’s degree other than those listed above, you must submit additional documentation along with your application so we can evaluate whether or not you meet the admission requirements.

If you have a Bachelor’s degree, Professional Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from Danish or international universities you are qualified for admission if your programme includes the following:

  • 60 ECTS within economics and/or political science

We may also admit applicants who, after an individual academic assessment, are deemed to possess educational qualifications equivalent to those required above.

Qualifying degree and other courses/projects

When we assess whether you meet the admission requirements for the Master’s degree programme, Danish legislation only allows us to assess your Bachelor’s degree. Consequently, you cannot study supplementary courses between Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in order to meet the admission requirements.

If you have passed courses/projects before you complete the qualifying Bachelor’s degree, these can be included in the assessment, even though they are not part of the Bachelor’s degree programme.

  • It applies to courses/projects you have taken as single subjects and courses/projects you have taken as part of another study programme.

  • A maximum of 30 ECTS credits of these courses/projects may be included.

Prioritisation of applicants

There is no BSc programme with reserved access for this programme.

If the number of qualified applicants to the programme exceeds the number of places available, applicants will be prioritised according to the following criteria:

  • Total number of ECTS in relevant courses*

  • Grades achieved in relevant courses*

*relevant courses include courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, statistics, mathematics, public economics, environmental economics, resource economics, public policy, public administration, international politics, comparative politics, and international relations.

If you are unsure about whether your degree meets the admission requirements

You can only get an answer to whether or not your degree meets the admission requirement by applying for admission to the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Programme. Only the admission committee can evaluate whether you are qualified or not and they only do this once they have received your application.

You must describe how you fulfil the programme’s admission requirements by filling out a self-assessment form. This is only relevant if your bachelor’s degree does not automatically fulfil the academic requirements. Learn more about the admission requirements above on this website.

If you do not upload a correct self-assessment form, your application may be rejected.

Please note that there are individual self-assessment forms for each MSc programme at the Faculty of SCIENCE.

What is a self-assessment?

The self-assessment form is an overview of the academic admission requirements of the programme you are applying for. You must fill out the form with the courses and projects from your bachelor’s degree that cover these academic admission requirements.

You can include both completed courses and projects and those you expect to complete as part of your bachelor’s degree. If you include projects in your self-assessment form, please include a description of the project.

If you have passed courses or projects before you complete the qualifying bachelor’s degree, these can be included, even though they are not part of the bachelor’s degree programme.

  • It applies to courses/projects you have taken as single subjects and courses/projects you have taken as part of another study programme.

  • A maximum of 30 ECTS credits of these courses/projects may be included.

How you fill out the self-assessment form

You must download the programme’s self-assessment form and follow these 3 steps when completing your self-assessment form:

  2. Save the file as an Excel file and name it: [Your name] Self-assessment

  3. Upload the Excel file to your application.

The course titles in the self-assessment must correspond to the course titles in your official transcript.

Please include all courses and projects that can cover the admission requirements even if you end up exceeding the required ECTS amount.

You cannot list the same course twice

Please note that 1 course can only be used to cover 1 admission requirement unless you use the course to cover general admission requirements such as e.g., 30 ECTS of lab exercises or 60 ECTS within the field of natural sciences.

If you have a course that covers 2 admission requirements, e.g. the course Mathematics and Statistics of 15 ECTS, you are allowed to split the credits in 7.5 Mathematics and 7.5. Statistics if it is very clear in the course description that both subjects have been covered equally in the course.

Why you need to fill out the self-assessment form

The admission committee will use your self-assessment to assess if you are qualified for admission. If you do not upload the correct self-assessment form, the admission committee cannot assess your qualifications, and your application may be rejected.

If you need help to fill out the self-assessment

There is a guide in the self-assessment form on the right side of the document. This guide helps you decide which courses to include and answers the most frequently asked questions.

If your educational institution does not use the ECTS credit system

Tuition fee, scholarships and other funding

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

The Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is awarded to the best students admitted each year to the programme from all over the world.

The scholarship amounts to a maximum of 33,600 € (1400 € per month for up to 24 months).

All scholarship holders are granted a tuition fee waiver.

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must

  • comply with the Erasmus Mundus Mobility Requirements

  • be a full-time student on the programme.

Erasmus Mundus Mobility Requirements

This requirement affects applicants residing in Italy, Poland, Germany and The Czech Republic at the time of application:

if you reside in Italy at the time of application and choose University of Milan (in Italy) as your second-year university, you will not be eligible for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. However, you will be eligible for the scholarship if you choose another second-year university.

  • if you reside in Poland at the time of application and choose University of Warsaw (in Poland) as your second-year university, you will not be eligible for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. However, you will be eligible for the scholarship if you choose another second-year university.

  • if you reside in Germany at the time of application and choose Heidelberg University (in Germany) as your second-year university, you will not be eligible for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. However, you will be eligible for the scholarship if you choose another second-year university.

However, you will be eligible for the scholarship if you choose another second-year university.

Financial conditions of the scholarship

The Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is only awarded to enrolled full-time students who have not previously benefitted from an EMJM Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and who complies with the Erasmus Mundus Mobility Requirements.

You are granted a tuition fee waiver as a scholarship holder.

The scholarship is a monthly allowance that you can use to cover travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs and should therefore be seen as a contribution to living expenses.

The monthly allowance is 1400€ and is paid to your bank account on the last bank day of a month for the forthcoming month.

The scholarship covers up to 24 months for the programme starting from September the first year of studies. The last payment will be no later than the last bank day of July the second year of studies, and the payment will cover the month of August.

In case of interruption of enrolment, e.g., maternity leave, sick-leave or similar absence, the monthly scholarship payments will be put on hold until the studies activities commence.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship assessment

The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships are awarded to the top applicants.

All scholarship applications are assessed by at least two Assessment Committee members. The scholarship applications are assessed on three assessment criteria in two stages.

The assessment for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is a different process than the assessment for admission to the programme. You can still be offered admission to the programme even though you are not awarded an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.

You can read about the specific requirements to the documentation for your scholarship application under Admission requirements and application

The three assessment criteria

The Assessment Committee assesses your application on three assessment criteria carrying the following weights:

  1. Academic excellence (75%)

  2. Personal motivation (10%)

  3. Relevant work experience (15%)

Each criterion is assessed on a scale from 1-5, where 1 is low and 5 is high and a weighted average is calculated.

Only the highest ranked applicants will be awarded an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.

The first assessment stage

In the first assessment stage, the Assessment Committee assesses your academic excellence.

The assessment is based on the grade point average (GPA) of your qualifying bachelor’s degree, any publications and other academic factors such as prior research experience.

If your academic excellence receives a score of 4 or higher, your scholarship application moves on to the second assessment stage. If it receives a score lower than 4, your scholarship application will not be assessed further.

The second assessment stage

In the second assessment stage, the Assessment Committee assesses the last two criteria:

  • Personal motivation

  • Relevant work experience

If one of these criteria receives a score lower than 3, your application will receive no further assessment.

The letter of motivation is used to assess your personal motivation to join the programme. The Assessment Committee look for enthusiasm for the subject and the chosen mobility track, which can be demonstrated by having undertaken relevant vacation employment or similar activities. Your letter of motivation should also contain a justification for the program choice and the second-year mobility track.

Your CV is used to assess your relevant work experience. The Assessment Committee look for relevant non-academic work experience, volunteer activities, and other indications relevant to the programme. These activities can be very varied.

The first instalment

If you are selected for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, the first instalment is transferred upon arrival to the University of Copenhagen – expected to disposal by the end of September.

The scholarship cannot be paid in advance nor be deferred for later admission.

Before study start every scholarship holder will receive detailed information on what to do to receive the scholarship.

How to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

You apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship when you apply for admission.

In the application portal you will be asked if you wish to apply for the scholarship. You can still apply for admission if you do not wish to apply for the scholarship.

You cannot apply for the scholarship without applying for admission to the programme nor can you apply for the scholarship once admitted without a scholarship.

You cannot apply for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship if you have previously benefitted from an EMJM Erasmus Mundus Scholarship.
